- If you haven’t yet, please complete the free career explorer test recommended in our book: https://www.careerexplorer.com/career-test/
- This test may take quite a while to complete.
- I highly recommend that you look at your career matches when prompted half-way through the test. Then you can then decide if you want to go on to finish the test or stop there.
- The prompting should come when you get the check mark for Career Matches on the progress list on the right (If using a laptop or desktop computer. I didn’t test it on a phone.)
- Career Research Project. Complete by April 13th. If you want more details on researching careers, see pages 49-60 in Career Planning for Teens. You can compile the information in any format you want (essay, list, poster, etc). Things to include:
- Job Description
- Education needed (Certification, Degree(s))
- Skills or Experience needed
- Salary
- Hours
- Working environment
- Projected growth of the career
- Location
- Career Advancement
- Pros/Cons
- Any additional information
- Interview 3 people about their careers. Complete by April 13th. Here are some questions to get you started, feel free to add your own:
- How did you decide your career?
- What does a typical day look like?
- What do you like about your career?
- What are the biggest challenges?
- What advice do you have for me as I am thinking about careers?
- (Optional) Job Shadow Experience: See Career Planning for Teens p. 57-58
- Go prepared with questions you may have about the career.
- Dress appropriately for the environment (ask beforehand if there is a dress code)
- Take notes or record your observations right after your experience.
- Send a thank you note or email to show appreciation.
